RBI raises repo rate by 25 bps to 5.50%, rules out rate cuts for now
The RBI's Monetary Policy Committee voted unanimously on 7 October 2026 to raise the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50%, as food and fuel prices push inflation higher. It also changed its stance to calibrated tightening and said rate cuts are off the table in the near term.
